Show 953: Controlling Cancer with Unexpected, Inexpensive Drugs

Show 953: Controlling Cancer with Unexpected, Inexpensive Drugs

$ 0.00

Cancer will soon surpass heart disease as the leading cause of death both in the U.S. and world-wide. Billions have been spent on cancer research, but there is still an enormous gap between what we have learned about cancer and what is available to help prevent cancer or its recurrence. Global Cures, Inc., is devoted to promoting clinical research on scientifically promising, cost-effective treatments for cancer, through repurposing existing drugs. With the appropriate clinical studies, effective cancer treatments could become more readily accessible here and in other countries.

Our guests, Vikas and Vidula Sukhatme, co-founders of Global Cures, discuss how the immune system could be activated to fight cancer, and how venerable generic drugs such as aspirin, metformin, cimetidine and nitroglycerin might be used to dramatically reduce the risk of recurrence. How can patients help collect the data needed to put these inexpensive drugs to good use?

Guests: Vidula Sukhatme, MS, is an epidemiologist, co-founder and CEO of Global Cures, Inc., of Newton, MA. Vikas Sukhatme, MD, PhD, is an oncology researcher, Chief Academic Officer at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston and Victor J. Aresty Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School. The website is Global-Cures.org.
